DUAC to put Delhi's rich history on display

You might be a hardcore Delhiite or someone who has made home the national capital recently but an exhibition unraveling many layers of Delhi's history — aptly titled ‘Dilli Naama – Biography of a Capital City' — would leave you surprised.

The grand exhibition has been conceived and put together by Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC). It aims to explore and expose the multiple dimensions of the city to the Delhiites and also to the visitors during the Games.

"Not just this, we are going to showcase the link between the physical geography and the cultural geography of the city," said DUAC chief K.T. Ravindran.

A collage of drawings, photographs, replicas of certain areas (like New Delhi) and even interactive media models are going to be part of the month long exhibition to be held at three locations across the city.

Three venues — Delhi University north campus, the Red Fort and India Habitat Centre — have been identified so and each venue would roughly occupy 3,000-odd sq mts of area. Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy, Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit respectively will inaugurate the exhibition.

The endeavour is funded by Ministry of Urban Development.

Book on Delhi

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will release a coffee table book on heritage monuments of Delhi brought out by the Archaeological Survey of India on Monday. The book will be available at counters in Red Fort, Purana Qila, Qutb Minar, Safdarjung Tomb and Jantar Mantar. It will also be available at the ASI headquarters on Janpath.
