NEW DELHI: A 60-year-old owner of an eatery in south Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar market was shot dead at his shop allegedly by four armed assailants following an argument over payment of Rs 1,000 for the food they ordered on Monday night.

The murder took place around 11pm in the presence of around 15 people, including customers and eatery employees. When the customers and employees attempted to stop the attackers, they opened fire in the air to scare them and fled in a car.

The incident took place right in front of a police picket where some police personnel were present. Eyewitnesses said the policemen rushed to stop the car but hesitated in firing at the attackers due to a power cut in the area caused by the rain and thunderstorm.

The victim, Pappu Va sud ev, was shot from close range in his chest and abdomen. He was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he succumbed to his injuries. Vasudev ran his eatery at the Lal Sai Market in Lajpat Nagar said the police.

A police officer said the argument started around 10 pm when four men entered Vasudev’s hotel and ordered food. After having food, the four refused to pay their bill of Rs 1,085.
