EC announces date for two Rajya Sabha polls, one seat held by PM

Elections for two Rajya Sabha seats – one of which is held by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh - from Assam will be held on May 30, the Election Commission announced on Thursday.

Elections for two Rajya Sabha seats – one of which is held by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh - from Assam will be held on May 30, the Election Commission announced on Thursday.

The term of two Rajya Sabha members from Assam - Singh and Kumar Deepak Das - is ending on June 14.

In wake of the vacancies, the commission announced the schedule for the elections starting with nomination on May 13.

The counting of the votes would take place on May 30, the day of casting of votes.

The Congress is in power in Assam.
