The engineer, Bhanu Pratap, was demolishing parts of a few houses in the unauthorised colony when some people took him to a nearby farmhouse and beat him up. He was later admitted to BR Ambedkar hospital with injuries on his face.

His colleagues have filed a complaint at the Samaypur Badli police station against the miscreants.

"Engineers of civic bodies are constantly threatened for cracking down on illegal constructions in the city," said one of the colleagues.

Last week, a similar incident was reported at East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) where a junior engineer was allegedly attacked by an east Delhi councillor.

A case of hurt has been registered by the police, said BS Jaiswal, DCP, (outer). He said that those behind the assault would be arrested.
