Rajeev Panwar, nephew of former mayor Jayshree Panwar, was sent to Tihar till July 18 after Metropolitan Magistrate Ankit Singla dismissed his bail application and remanded him to 14 days in judicial custody.

The court denied him bail saying the allegation against him is serious in nature.

Rajeev, whose father is a government employee, was on June 24 remanded in judicial custody after his arrest for the alleged offence committed in his house.

A case of rape and house trespass was registered at the Hauz Khas police station on the basis of a complaint by the US national's husband.

The victims lived on rent in a house owned by Rajeev, who also runs a travel business. They have been living there for the past six to seven months.

Police said the US national and her husband, along with the Russian national, had returned home after attending a party late on June 23.

"They had kept the main door of the house unlocked as there was a power cut in their area," the official said.

"Around 4:30am, Rajeev walked into the house and sexually assaulted the US national," the police had said. He later allegedly sexually assaulted the Russian national, who was asleep in the next room.
