Desai, who is facing corruption charges, was scheduled to attend a conference of World Medical Association in Canada to be held between October 13 and 16.

Instead, three others — Dr S Samaran, president, Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dr Dharm Prakash, secretary general (IMA), and Dr Ajay Kumar, council member WMA, will be representing India at the conference, which started on Wednesday.

The Delhi High Court had earlier given him the permission to attend the conference after laying down several clauses.

However, the decision to cancel his trip came after the ethics committee of the MCI suspended his licence to practice medicine last week.
