Known to be rivals across Delhi University, here’s what’s best in these two colleges. After the face-off between Gargi and Kamala Nehru College last week, we now bring to you the best of Miranda House College, located in North campus and Lady Shri Ram College, located in South campus.

Though both these colleges are all-girls’ college, they have their own unique strengths, which make them strong rivals in the varsity. Lady Shri Ram College

Founded
This college was established in the year 1956 by late Shri Ram in the memory of his wife Phoolan Devi. Coming into existence after eight years of Miranda House College’s inception, today, the college, located in South Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, has approximately 2000 students, over 150 faculty members, administrative and support staff and about 16 courses.

Famous Alumni
LSR’s alumni include Nobel peace prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi, film producer Gauri Khan, politician and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi, Gita Gopinath, first Indian woman professor at Harvard University and theatre personality Lilette Dubey.

Cool Quotient
The college has a women’s development cell, which seeks to create awareness about important issues such as one’s body, sexuality and gender. Projekt, the film and photography society, is one of the most famous societies of the college.

Canteen
Known as LSR café, it has been built with red and yellow bricks to give it a zing. The menu has a wide variety of dishes such as pastries, masala dosa and more. Some of the popular dishes here are keema dosa (Rs 30) and chicken tikka roll (Rs 35).

Miranda House

Founded
Located in North campus, the college was founded in 1948 by the then Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University, Sir Maurice Gwyer. The college, which has spacious corridors, was originally designed by the renowned architect Walter George. The number of students went up steadily from 122 in 1948 to 2086 in 1967. It has now been declared a heritage building and work is on to maintain its glory.

Famous Alumni
The popular alumni of the college include various actors such as Minissha Lamba, Mallika Sherawat and Nandita Das. Others include Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, artist Anjolie Ela Menon and author Anuja Chauhan.

Cool Quotient
It is known not only for its academic excellence, but also for its extracurricular activities. Geetanjali - the Indian music society, Adwitya - the Fine Arts Society and Orpheus - the western music society are some of the most popular societies here.

Canteen
This college’s canteen is famous for its cold coffee and nimboo-pani. It is also quite popular for its masala chowmein (Rs 25), mix vegetable soup (Rs 10) and chhole bathure (Rs 30). Nescafe, located near the canteen, is also a hit with the students.

Tempest, the annual fest of our college, is the best thing to experience. I also love the Diwali celebrations here.
