The sealing of illegal bore-wells and impounding of water tankers have already begun.

The district administration recently conducted a survey and found that over 100 water tankers cross over from Faridabad to Delhi every 72 hours.

Based on the findings, the administration decided to impose restrictions on the illegal extraction of water from borewells along the Faridabad-Delhi border and also on the transportation of water to the capital.

Sources said the number of water tankers supplying water from Faridabad to large parts of South Delhi, including the Okhla industrial belt, goes up during summers.

The administration wants to serve two purposes: maintain the groundwater level in Faridabad and ensure smooth water supply in the NCR town during summers.

The police have been directed to launch a massive crackdown on the movement of water tankers near the Delhi border.

"We have sealed some illegal bore-wells and the process is continuing," said Ravi Singla, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF). "To ensure there is no water crisis in Faridabad, the MCF is installing its own bore-wells."

"We conducted a survey on the movement of water tankers from Faridabad to Delhi a few days ago and over a 100 tankers were found transporting water to Delhi in 72 hours," said Yashpal Yadav, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Faridabad.

"I was informed that water extracted from illegally set up bore-wells in Faridabad is sold in Delhi. And the quantity supplied is much higher during summers," said Rakesh Gupta, DC Faridabad.

"Action under section 188 IPC will be initiated against the violators," Gupta added.

The tankers supply water to Badarpur, Jaitpur, Mehrauli, Saket, Sangam Vihar, Tuqlagabad Extension, Tuqlagabad, Railway colony, Prehladpur, Mithapur, Mohband, Tajpur Pahari, Lal Kuan, Khanpur, Alaknanda, Govindpuri etc.
