The face off in the Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO) sector in Ladakh could be a localised affair, say government sources basing their inferences on a series of developments since the incident in April 15.

This includes foreign secretary Ranjan Mathai calling in Chinese ambassador to India Wei Wei on April 18 evening, after a flag meeting on the same day failed to resolve the deadlock. The envoy was told in no uncertain terms that the Chinese troops should be pulled back.

"...The ongoing incident in the Depsang area of the Western Sector of the India-China Boundary is a localised event. This is a sector in which there are differing perceptions of the Line of Actual Control. That is why we have, since 1996 been maintaining that there is a need for both sides to work together in clarifying and confirming the Line of Actual Control", MEA spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin said on Tuesday.
