Lodhi Colony Police have managed to nab one of the last remaining members of the notorious Satya Prakash alias Satte gang involved in a spate of robberies and snatchings in the Capital, reports HT Correspondent.

On Friday night, police arrested Kamaljeet alias Bittoo (36), who had escaped from the Green Park encounter on January 19, in which four members of the gang had been arrested.

The police said Bittoo, a close aide of Satte and Sharafat Sheikh, was wanted in more than 40 cases of robbery in banks and cash vans in Delhi, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan.

Most recently, Bittoo was involved in the attempted robbery at South Extension Part-II on June 15 when the gang shot at a petrol pump manager who was carrying Rs 10 lakh in cash.

Bittoo carried a reward of Rs 50, 000 from the Special Cell and Rs 10,000 from UP Police.

Bittoo’s arrest also helped the police in arresting his associate and gangster Shakeel after a brief encounter.

The police seized an Italian .32 bore pistol loaded with 9 cartridges from Bittoo and a Chinese pistol with two fired and three live cartridges from Shakeel. With the arrest of the two the police claimed to have foiled the plan of the criminals to loot a cash van in south Delhi.

Deputy commissioner (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said a police team led by Lodhi Colony SHO Rajender Singh, under the supervision of ACP (Defence Colony) Vikramjeet Singh received information that Bittoo meet a contact near Nizamuddin flyover.

“On his instance, the team after a brief encounter arrested Shakeel, the brother-in-law of Satte, near Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium. Shakeel, who was riding a motorbike, fired twice on the police team,” Dhaliwal said.
