Gardener at PHQ cuts self with mower, dies

NEW DELHI: A 50-year-old gardener working at the police headquarters in ITO died after he accidentally cut himself with a lawnmower blade on Wednesday.

Afsar,h ailing from Bulandshehar, was rushed to the hospital after the accident, but was declared dead on arrival. His body has been sent for a postmortem.

The police said Afsar reached the PHQ in the morning. When he began trimming the grass in the lawns, a metal wire got stuck in the lawnmower blade.

Without switching off the machine, Afsar bent down to pull out the metal wire entangled in the blade. The moment he pulled out the wire the blade started running and slit Afsar’s throat. He collapsed on the ground bleeding profusely.

“He did not switch off the mower before he tried to pull out the wire. The blades of the mower cut his throat. It was an accident, but we have initiated an inquiry,” a senior police officer said.
