“People use surface parking lots because they think these are easier to navigate. We want to discourage that,” said Bhure Lal, chairperson of the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA), a Supreme Court-appointed body that monitors policies on pollution and parking spaces in the city.

The panel has called a meeting with NDMC officials on Saturday to discuss the issue. The multi-level parking lots will come up in Sarojini Nagar, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Friends Colony, Greater Kailash, Kamla Nagar and Green Park.

If the EPCA’s suggestion is accepted, parking rates in places like CP and Sarojini Nagar will go up. “We’ll examine the matter once we receive an official communication,” said Santosh Vaidya, NDMC secretary.
