Following the meeting, most of the cellular operators have decided that they would initiate the regularisation process at the earliest so that the consumers do not suffer due to poor connectivity.

“Cellular-operators have been asked to regularize their towers at the earliest. The process would be carried out within next two months where 50 per cent of the towers would be regularized within each month. Failing this, we would seal the towers,” said GDA Vice-Chairman N.K. Chaudhary.

As per last month’s survey, it was found that 611 mobile towers located across the city were not regularised or installed as per norms.

Only four such towers, within the GDA’s jurisdiction, complied with the norms.

As per the guidelines, a cellular-operator has to undertake certain clearance like structural-safety and No-objection-Certificate (NOC) from the respective Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and submission of fees, before placing a tower.

Officials said those towers installed in illegal colonies or on illegal constructions would be removed.

“We have asked the operators to provide the list of towers placed at such locations and they would be removed,” Chaudhary said.
