Ghaziabad’s summer power woes to go on

Residents of the city will face another grim summer due to non-completion of four 132KV power substations. The substations were expected to be completed by mid-2011. The irony is, the district contributes the highest power revenue among all the state’s districts.

Senior Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited officials said the residents should expect 6-7 hours of scheduled power cuts this summer. “Due to delays and laxity, the work can only be completed by September or October 2011,” Chief Engineer (Transmission) AP Mishra said.

Last summer, Ghaziabad had seen 10-12-hour-long power outages a day due to severe load shedding. At present, the district is falling short by nearly 150MW. “What is painful is that residents pay taxes and yet have to pay more to make arrangements for power,” said Kuldeep Saxena from Indiapuram RWA.
