Govt launches common mobility card

The card, once it becomes operational, can be used across different modes of transport like buses, Metro, Bus Rapid Transport System etc. The concept of single ticket over all systems of public transport has also been envisaged in the national urban transport policy.

Urban development minister Kamal Nath launched the card on Tuesday on the last day of the Urban Mobility India 2011 conference.

So far, the ministry has signed an agreement with the Jaipur City Transport Services Ltd. “It will be rolled out in Jaipur by March 2012. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Bangalore and Bhopal civic bodies will also enter into the agreement,” said an official. Subsequently it will be extended to other states which have modern modes of transport.
