Launching the scheme, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said her government was taking “all possible” steps to rein in price rise.

“We will take strict action against hoarders and those shopkeepers who are found selling pulses and other food items at high rates,” she said.

Expressing concern over rising prices of sugar, Dikshit also announced that the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) would soon start selling sugar at lower rates in the city.

Officials said one kg packets of 10 varieties of pulses have been made available in nearly 400 outlets, including Kendriya Bhandars and Mother Dairy booths, besides some other selected outlets.

The city government had entered into a collaboration with Delhi Grain Merchant Association, Pulses Millers’ Association to make available the pulses at subsidised rates.

Dikshit said the government would soon start a massive campaign to check whether retail outlets across the city are selling pulses and other food items at actual rates.

Officials said one kg packets of Arahar dal, Masoor Malka (red), Masoor Malka (black) and Urad will be sold at Rs 66, Rs 55, Rs 46 and Rs 47, respectively, at the outlets.

Likewise, Urad Dal (washed), Kabuli Chana, Rajma, Chana dal, Kala chana and Moong (washed) will be sold for Rs 58, Rs 46, Rs 41, Rs 33, Rs 32 and Rs 82 per kg, respectively.
