Delhi revenue minister Rajkumar Chauhan said the land cleared is in North, West and Southwest areas of the Capital. “The freed land includes gram sabha and government land that had been sold to the people by the land mafia and builders,” he said.

He said the issue of mushrooming unauthorised colonies, apart from the 1,639 such colonies that are listed, was discussed in Cabinet and decision was taken to curb them. The Delhi government is considering regularising the 1,639 colonies that had come up before 2007.

Chauhan said action would be taken against police officials, deputy commissioner of police, deputy commissioner (revenue) and other senior officials in the administration if unauthorised colonies are allowed to come up in the area.
