HC slaps Rs 16 lakh fine on govt employee

Delhi high court has upheld the Lok Sabha Secretariat estate officer’s order imposing more than Rs 16 lakh fine as damages on a government employee for illegally occupying an official bungalow on Talkatora Road for about seven years after his retirement.

Dismissing the appeal of GR Gupta against a 2011 verdict, Justice VK Jain imposed the fine for staying in a bungalow for the period after his retirement (September 1, 1994) till September 27, 2001.
