The court, however, clarified that its order was not a mandate on faculty members to associate themselves in college affairs. Justice S. Ravindra Bhat made it clear that Delhi University can take legal recourse against teachers if they do not participate in preparing the timetable, as the classes were yet to start.

"The defendant (DUTA) was directed not to prevent the teachers who voluntarily associate in preparing the time-table for under graduate course...," said Justice Bhat.

On June 21, the court had restrained the DU teachers from obstructing the admission process of current academic year, keeping in mind the career of students. The teachers are protesting the University's decision to implement semester system for undergraduate students of science courses.

Justice Bhat disposed of a petition filed by DU seeking an injunction restraining the teachers from going on strike.
