The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition on the rights of Indian women who get married in India and settle abroad with NRI husbands.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition on the rights of Indian women who get married in India and settle abroad with NRI husbands.

The petition has urged the court to lay down guidelines on whether Indian women can move local courts here to get custody of their children who are born abroad.

A bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan stayed a Delhi High Court order that said Indian courts do not have the jurisdiction to hear child custody cases of persons of Indian Origin (PIOs).
