Heavy rains lashed the national capital on Sunday morning, substantially bringing the mercury down, with the maximum temperature recorded at 23.9, a good 11 notches below normal.

Heavy rains lashed the national capital on Sunday morning, substantially bringing the mercury down, with the maximum temperature recorded at 23.9, a good 11 notches below normal.

After a gap of five days, the city first received just 4.0 mm rains till 8.30 am and then 56.2 mm rains over the next few hours, to add to 60.2 mm rains till 5.30 pm, Met officials said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 23.2 (one notch below normal) at 5.30 pm.

The total rainfall has been 46 per cent more than the normal till date this season. Sunday’s downpour takes the total rainfall in September this year to 250.6 mm and the season’s total to 949.2 mm.

The weatherman has forecast a cloudy sky with a few spells of rain and thundersho-wers, which may be heavy in some areas. The maximum temperature is expected to be at 26 degrees Celsius and the minimum to be 22 degrees Celsius.
