In a unique campaign aimed at creating awareness against noise pollution, a group of 200 volunteers, including school children, plans to remove 'Horn Please' signs of around one lakh commercial vehicles during a week-long drill starting this on Tuesday.

"The campaign will be carried out at the Delhi-Gurgaon Toll Gates, Express Highway round the clock for one week from 22nd to 28th December. We will try to set a record by removing the sign in over one lakh vehicles using black oil paint," Ravi Kalra, President of NGO 'The Earth Saviours Foundation' which is organising the campaign, said.
When asked whether the intended action will invite trouble like resistance from vehicle owners and police cases, he said the goal is to create awareness and "for that we are prepared to go to jail". The Supreme Court has banned honking near hospitals, schools and religious places, but the same is violated especially in cities like Delhi where many a vehicles use air horns, he claimed.
"After the week-long campaign we intend to file a PIL against the lack of monitoring system against such unnecessary use of horns. One should use horns only in case of emergency," Kalra said.
During the opening ceremony of the Anti Honking Campaign, paintings drawing attention to the problem by students of various schools in the national capital will be displayed, he said.
