A new team of ministers took guard on Sunday to carry on the UPA government's second innings of the economic reforms with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reposing faith on younger colleagues to step up the pedal on implementing several key measures over the next few months.HT reports.

Shortly after being appointed as minister of state (independent charge) for power, Jyotiraditya Scindia said his priorities will be to ensure proper electricity supply in the country.

Scindia will have to work towards reducing the existing demand supply mismatch and ensure adequate fuel supply to fulfill the country's plan to add 80,000 MW in next five years.

"I will try to ensure coordination with coal and environment ministries,” Scindia said adding PSUs were “doing a stellar job in terms of capacity addition.”

“It is good to see a mix of new faces in the council of ministers. It is a good balance between youth and experienced faces,” said Chandrajit Banerjee, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) director general.

"It is good to see a couple of young faces with independent charge in the Union cabinet. We wish the new team all success in taking economic reforms forward and put the economy on a higher growth trajectory," RV Kanoria, president of industry body of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) said.

"Induction of young faces in the cabinet has given a new hope as it would strengthen the image of the government amid the youth as quality governance together with transparent and expeditious decision making is the need of the hour," said DS Rawat, secretary general of Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).
