India, UK tie-up on nuclear safety

India and the UK on Monday agreed to contribute £50 million pounds (Rs 403 crore) towards greater scientific cooperation, including nuclear technology.

UK's minister of state for universities and sciences David Willetts and India's minister of state for science and technology and planning Ashwani Kumar, while announcing the pact, said key areas for collaboration include food security, health and weather sciences. India's department of biotechnology and Britain's Wellcome Trust will set up an initiative for affordable healthcare. On nuclear cooperation, Willets said: "We already have a civil nuclear pact and we have agreed on further cooperation." HTC
