Sources said the ministry for home affairs (MHA) had written to Delhi Police on Tuesday, asking them to enhance security in areas with an increased presence of Israel nationals.

"There are different levels of officers (from Israel) in the Capital and the MHA has chalked out a separate security plan for all of them. Those under sensitive category were given highly-trained escort of Delhi Police," said a senior officer of Delhi Police, requesting anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to media.

"After receiving the letter, we immediately decided the security structure. Senior officers were given escorts and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have been placed in areas where they live," the officer added.

Police have also identified areas where Israeli nationals live and have increased security in those areas.

The police have also issued an advisory directing officials attached to all foreign embassies to park their cars "at authorised parking spots only".

Israel has close to 50 'assets' - ranging from places of worship to schools - in the city where security has been beefed up, police said.

Dharmendra Kumar, special CP (law and order), said QRTs have been deployed at 'five crucial points' in the city.
