The restoration work on the flyover is yet to start as the inspection by experts could not be conducted on Monday. The flyover comes under the jurisdiction of the MCD. Officials of the MCD now say an inspection will be held on Wednesday.

However, a team of MCD engineers led by engineer-in-chief on Tuesday carried out an inspection of the flyover on Monday. "Though, we are making our own technical assessment, the final decision for the restoration work will be taken in consultation with Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee. The CBRI team is now likely to arrive tomorrow" said Dee Mathur, director, press and information, MCD.

"We will ensure that the restoration work starts at the earliest. We will ensure minimum possible inconvenience is caused to public. The bridge has been closed to traffic in consultation with the Traffic Police," he added.

After the breach was noticed in the structure, the flyover was closed on Monday causing huge jams in west Delhi after traffic was diverted to other roads .

"Traffic situation was much better on Tuesday as people by and large got to know of the diversions. The flyover will remain closed for commuters till further order," said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

The 30-year-old structure has dilapidated over the years and the MCD had developed a rehabilitation plan for it in 2009.
