JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, whose party was a member of Third Front, conveyed his party's support in a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi when he met her in New Delhi.

He later told reporters that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had called up JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday morning after which the party decided to extend support to UPA.

Asked whether JD(S) asked for any Cabinet berth, Kumaraswamy said the party's support will be unconditional.

Kumaraswamy had met Gandhi a few days back, a meeting which he apparently wanted to keep secret. On seeing media outside Gandhi's residence, he had hidden his face with a hand.

Later, he had claimed that his meeting had nothing to do with support but was in connection with some issue related to Karnataka.
