Even as the Commonwealth Games draws to a close, protests against the mega-event continued on Wednesday. Students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) held a protest march against the Games’ organisers and the Delhi government.

The students alleged that in order to impress the visitors, the government tried to hide the slums behind colourful hoardings and banners.“It is quite shameful. The slum dwellers, some of whom have helped build the stadiums and roads for the Games, have meted out inhuman treatment. By hiding the slums, the people living there have been treated as third-class citizens in their own country,” said Shambhavi Srivastava, a second-year student.

The protesters marched from Ganga Dhaba in JNU to a nearby slum. Later, police dispersed them since they didn’t have prior permission to hold the protest.
