Kerala entrepreneur gets coir export award

Expand the banking coverage near the industrial clusters to realise the potential of small industries, which could affect a socio-economic change in addition to growth of the country, President Pranab Mukherjee said presenting the national awards to micro, small and medium enterprises and banks, on Wednesday.

KJ Dennis, chairman and MD of DC Mills, a medium-scale coir product industry based at Alleppey in Kerala has received the award for the largest exporter of coir products for 2011-12.

Dennis said he had been receiving the award for the last 20 years, the first in 1993 from then President SD Sharma.

“Mechanisation of work gave us an edge over others in terms of quality and quantity,” Dennis, who exports products like, mats, carpets to the US and Europe.
