The vendor smiled and posed for the camera. “Twitter ke bare mein suna hai?” (Have you heard about Twitter?) Narayan asked but the vendor shook his head.
Just a handful of the thousands of people who attend the trade fair, which was opened for the general public on Thursday, have heard about Twitter.
It’s a micro-blogging site that allows users to post updates about their lives, 140 characters at a time. But that doesn’t seem to deter Narayan, a self-confessed Twitter fanatic and his group of six people from pushing the envelope: They are covering the 14-day event exclusively on Twitter, he said.
Armed with smartphones, the group has been moving around Pragati Maidan ever since the event kicked off on the 14th of this month, capturing everything in vivid detail — the best (and the worst) pavilions, the thronging crowds and of course, people violating the smoking and plastic bans in full view of police personnel.
“We try and capture whatever catches our attention,” said Himanshu Thukral (18), one of the group members. But doesn’t clicking photos all day get monotonous?
Paridhi Negi (18), another group member, said. “There’s no dearth of interesting things. Besides, we can add our own comments with each picture.”
According to Trade Fair officials, on Tuesday more than 70,000 people had visited the fair. Between them, they upload about 250 pictures on Twitter each day.
At the time of this writing, the group had posted 1,417 pictures on Twitter via Twitsnaps.com.
