Love affair turns violent; 1 killed

The scene of Monday's night violent end to this love story was Bhajanpura, a low middle-class locality in northeast Delhi.

The story goes thus: Atul Rana (20) allegedly had an affair with the granddaughter of Shivraj Sharma alias Swaraj. All are residents of Subhash Vihar in Bhajanpura.

The police did not divulge the girl’s name.

Around 4 pm on Monday, Swaraj went to victim Rajesh Rana's (35) shop along with his two sons, Vinod and Anil.

"He threatened Rajesh Rana with dire consequences if his nephew did not sever his ties with his granddaughter," said a police officer who requested anonymity as he not authorised to speak to the media.

Around 7 pm, Swaraj again went to the shop along with his family armed with batons, a revolver and some blunt objects.

"When they threatened Rajesh Rana again, the argument turned violent. Atul, his uncle Rajesh Rana and his cousin Anil Rana and Anil's brother-in-law Rajesh Thakur were grievously injured," the officer said.

All four were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur hospital where Rajesh Rana was declared dead on arrival, said the officer.

The police arrested Swaraj and his two sons. A murder case has been registered against Swaraj and his family.
