Luxury carmakers to train their customers
Barely a fortnight after the Lamborghini crash on the BRT killed the driver, the three major luxury carmakers in India — BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi — are introducing driver training academies so that their customers are well-versed with their high-performance cars.
The largest among the three, BMW on Friday launched its unique driver-training programme in Delhi and Chennai to be held over the weekend. The programme seeks to improve driving skills, handling, reaction time and awareness of not only the existing but also the prospective BMW customers.
Similarly, Mercedes Benz has tied up with the Buddh International Circuit for its AMG performance academy that will impart its customers beginner’s knowledge about the handling and safety aspects of its cars by trained experts from Germany.
Audi, is hosting a special R drive across the country for its sportscars R8, RS5 and R8 spyder. It also plans to broaden such events in future. “With the X1 and 3 series, our cars have become more affordable and are being driven by customers who have had limited exposure to such vehicles,” said Andreas Schaaf, president, BMW India.
“A majority, 70% of X1 buyers in India are from companies such as Honda and are new customers of luxury cars. Unlike in Germany where people are used to driving at speeds of 200kmph and above, customers here do not have that experience due to lack of infrastructure,” he added.
