West Delhi police have arrested a man for allegedly extorting money by posing as a police officer, the police said here on Saturday.

The arrested has been identified as Viresh and he was apprehended from Subhash Nagar yesterday while he was in police uniform.
"After parking his scooter, Viresh accused Deepak, the complainant, of being drunk and started demanding money to release him. Deepak recognised him as the same police officer who had taken money from him on the same allegations earlier too," a senior police official said. Deepak then called the PCR and got him arrested.
"Viresh told the police that his father has retired from Delhi Police force. He used to wear the uniform and a black jacket and then extort money form people by threatening them. Whenever he noticed any suspicious person(s) or a place where construction was going on, he would introduce himself as a police officer to extort money," the official said.
The accused was earlier involved in construction business along with a partner.
