Police said that Madan Pandey was arrested on Friday after his wife filed a complaint against him.

“His wife alleged that Pandey regularly molested their daughter and on Friday evening, when she had gone to buy vegetables, Pandey raped their 16-year-old daughter,” said a senior police officer from Sarojini Nagar police station said, who did not want to be named.

Police said the victim was sleeping in another room. When Pandey’s wife left the house, the accused went into the room and raped her.

A medical examination of the girl confirmed rape.

Pandey works as a domestic help in nearby areas and lives with his family members in RK Puram’s sector-13.

Police said that Pandey had threatened his daughter with dire consequences to stop her from telling anyone.

An analysis of rape cases in 2011 has revealed that in 97% of them, the accused was known to the person and in 58% cases, accused was a relative of the victim.

In 2011, 568 rape cases were reported in comparison to 507 in 2010 and police managed to arrest the accused in 98% cases.
