Man held with pistol from New Delhi railway station

A 28-year-old man, hailing from Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district, was arrested by the Delhi Police from the New Delhi railway station on Saturday morning with a loaded country-made pistol, three mobile phones and some documents.

According to police, the arrested person, identified as Rakesh Kumar, was arrested during a random checking by a special team of the Delhi Police.

Delhi Police have launched a special random checking drive at the railway and Metro stations keeping in view the security threats being received pertaining to the Independence Day.

Kumar was returning to his native place from Jammu. He arrived in the Capital from Jammu in a bus and was to board a train. Central intelligence agencies have been informed about the arrest and they are interrogating the person to verify his antecedents.

BS Gujjar, additional deputy commissioner of police (railways) said Kumar was arrested by the special team after his activities was found suspicious.

"The team searched his baggage and recovered the loaded pistol and other items. A passport, not belonging to him, was also found in his possession," said Gujjar.

During interrogation, Kumar claimed that he is a farmer and was returning from his relative's place in Jammu.

"Speaking about the seized items, he said that he had stolen them from his relative's house. We are verifying his claims and have informed our counterparts in UP to help us establish his antecedents," added Gujjar.
