A resident of Uttam Nagar area of Delhi, he had tried to kill himself publicly in Indirapuram on November 14. He had tried to cut his throat with a knife during the two-hour-long drama at a market in Indirapuram.

He had been booked under sections 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of IPC and section 25/4 of the Arms Act after the incident and sent to Dasna district jail.

A police officer had also sustained injuries while trying to prevent him killing himself at Indirapuram.
On Monday, Mohammed was found dead around 1.45 pm inside the Dasna jail's toilet.

"He had been hospitalized for some psychiatric treatment and was referred to Meerut Medical College from MMG hospital, Ghaziabad. On Monday afternoon, he went to the toilet and hanged himself from the grille above the door with help of a towel," jail superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma said.

Mohammed had used an earthen pot to reach up to the door grille.

"He had disturbed marital relations with his wife and feared that his wife was conspiring to kill him. So he wanted to commit suicide. He also suffered from some psychological disturbance," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said.

Dasna jail official said a judicial inquiry would be conducted into Monday's incident. The deceased's body has been sent for a postmortem.
