The Delhi Police have arrested a 29-year-old man who would boast of his contacts with educational institutes, promise admission and dupe people of lakhs of rupees.

The accused, Milon Roy, was arrested on Saturday after a victim, Radha Thakur, lodged a complaint to the police. According to the police, Roy had promised Thakur that he would get her son admitted to a management college in Pune in return of Rs 2 lakh.

“Roy told Thakur that the money was for administration expenditure following which Thakur deposited Rs 5,000 in Roy's account in March. She followed this with another payment of R1.75 lakh the next day," said a senior police officer.

Roy then asked her to come to the college in April to finalise the admission process but Thakur’s son failed to secure admission.

"Roy and his associates used to publish advertisements in leading dailies, offering admission guidance for prominent medical, management and engineering colleges. They operated under the name of Skytek Consultants. Roy has cheated several other people in the past and his bank accounts have been frozen," the officer said.

Roy, who hails from West Bengal, has studied up to Class 10. In 2003, he came to Delhi and started working as a compounder, police said.
