Man tried to extort RS 5 cr from me: Amar

Singh, who appeared before Metropolitan Magistrate, alleged that Barun Kumar Verma posed as a law officer and demanded money to ensure a favourable order.

“Accused used to say that he is a law officer... and claimed to know Justice (since retd) A.R. Lakshamanan...,” he testified.

Singh said the man “demanded Rs 5 crore to settle the matter... and get a favourable judgement through Kumar, son-in-law of Justice Lakshamanan”. He deposed that a sting operation showed V. Chaturvedi (who filed a PIL against Yadav for allegedly amassing disproportion assets) saying there was a “conspiracy” among Congress to “accommodate” Lakshmanan if he passed an order against Yadav.
