Manager of pan masala company shot dead outside office

A 52-year-old administration manager of Pan Bahar Group was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants outside the company's office in Moti Nagar on Tuesday morning.

A senior police officer said the motive behind the murder was not clear because the assailants took away only a black polythene bag, containing a lunch box and some documents, from the victim after shooting him.

Police said the incident took place at 11am near the main gate of Ashok and Company Pan Bahar Ltd office at Shivaji Marg in Moti Nagar. The victim has been identified as Nirmal Jain.

"They did not touch the Rs. 19, 260 which we found intact in Jain's pocket. Prima facie it seems that he was murdered over personal enmity and the assailants took away his polythene bag only to mislead us. We have registered a case of murder," the officer added. Police said they are also examining CCTV footage of the cameras installed at the company's main gate and at other buildings near the murder spot.

V Renganathan, additional CP (west), said Jain was working at the Delhi office as an administration manager for the last four-and-a-half years. On Tuesday morning, Jain arrived outside the main gate of his office in a three-wheeler.

"He was near the main gate when an assailant fired a bullet at him from the front. The bullet hit Jain's right hand and then pierced his chest. He collapsed on the road and the assailant fled with his associate on a motorcycle after taking Jain's polythene bag. He was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival," said Renganathan, adding the entire incident was witnessed by Ved Prakash, a transporter of the company Jain worked for.

Jain, a native of Bokaro in Jharkhand, is survived by wife Shashi Jain, daughter Anni, 22, son Mayank, 18.
