The Delhi Cabinet, on Monday, also gave its approval to amending the Delhi Hindu Marriage Registration Rules, 1956, that made it mandatory for either the bride or the groom (or any of their parents) to have been living in the area for atleast 30 days), for registering the marriage. Now, though, anyone who has been living in Delhi for even a day will be eligible to register his/her marriage. It will help couples seeking refuge from the wrath of caste-based community panchayats like khaps, that have been issuing diktats against couples from same sub-castes entering matrimonial alliances.
