Mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney said, “The MCD incurs expenditures worth almost a lakh during all such meetings, besides expenditure on electricity. All officials put in their time and energy in such meetings but the councillors disrupt the meeting, hoping to draw attention to themselves.”

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has planned to deploy marshals during its meetings to “maintain decorum in the House”.

Sawhney said many senior officials and members of the MCD’s deliberative wing have suggested that the civic agency talk to the Lieutenant Governor to consider employing the services of marshals.

“The Opposition members do not leave us with much option. Their only aim is to disrupt meetings and render them completely unproductive,” he said.

Meanwhile, led by BJP state president Vijender Gupta, party members from the civic agency and its SC Morcha on Tuesday organised a protest march towards the residence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

They were protesting the alleged “unbecoming comments made by Leader of Opposition Jai Kishan Sharma against BJP’s Yogendra Chandolia”.

The Congress also staged a simultaneous demonstration at Town Hall against the alleged mishandling of a Congress Councillor.
