MCA student stabbed by pickpockets in Kalyanpuri

A 21-year-old MCA student was stabbed to death during a scuffle with pickpockets in Kalyanpuri area of east Delhi on Sunday evening. HT reports.

A 21-year-old MCA student was stabbed to death during a scuffle with pickpockets in Kalyanpuri area of east Delhi on Sunday evening.

Police said the victim, identified as Rajnish, was pursuing MCA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and had got down from a bus when he had the scuffle.

“Rajnish was travelling with his friends in a bus plying on route number 118. They had to get down at Chand Cinema in Kalyanpuri area. Rajnish along with his friend Manish were standing at the front gate of the bus when someone tried to pick Manish’s pocket. He caught the pickpocket following which a heated argument began,” a senior police officer said.

In the meantime, few other local criminals gathered and started fighting with them. “During the scuffle, Rajnish was stabbed in the thigh. His friends Deep Narayan and Manish were injured too,” the officer added. The accused however managed to escape.

Rajnish, a native of Gorakhpur, was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding. A case of murder has been registered.
