MCD cancels health workers' leave

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has cancelled all leaves of its health department employees to ensure they are all there to control dengue, especially in the worst-affected areas such as Jamia nagar, Vasant Kunj, Rohini etc. Rhythma Kaul reports.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has cancelled all leaves of its health department employees to ensure they are all there to control dengue, especially in the worst-affected areas such as Jamia nagar, Vasant Kunj, Rohini etc. MCD workers will be working in the area even on Sundays till the situation is under control.

The mayor of Delhi, Prithvi Raj Sawhney, will also be meeting the residents of the area on Wednesday morning. Three mobile clinics, comprising four teams of five doctors each, visited Jamia Nagar on Tuesday, to provide immediate medical aid to the suspected cases of dengue in the area. Twelve hand-operated fogging machines and two vehicle-mounted ones have been exclusively assigned for the area to fumigate it daily twice a day. On Sunday, HT had reported a dengue outbreak in the area, and how residents complained against the government of neglecting and grossly understating dengue figures from six areas comprising Jamia Nagar, including Batla House, Abul Fazal Enclave, Part-I and II.

More than 100 people in the area with dengue-like symptoms are visiting local hospitals, out of which close to 40 are turning positive each day, twice the number of cases reported from the entire city.

Four suspected dengue patients died at Holy Family hospital on Tuesday, taking the total death toll in the city to five. The MCD, however, is yet to confirm the deaths.
