The cash-strapped MCD wants a fixed salary for its municipal councillors.

The MCD house has recommended a sum of Rs 25,000 to be given to municipal councillors in its budget for the year 2011-12 finalised on Monday.

This is the first time that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has made this recommendation. The civic agency has passed a proposal to forward a recommendation to the Central government to sanction Rs 10,000 as monthly salary for each of the 272 councillors.

Leader of the MCD house Subhash Arya presented a R6,943.63 crore budget for the civic body that looks after 96% areas of Delhi.

“The monetary benefits will motivate us to work for the betterment of people,” said Arya.
