MEA warns against non-essential travel to Libya
In view of the spreading unrest in Libya that reportedly left some hundred people dead, government today cautioned the Indians against taking up non-essential travel to that country. HT reports.
In view of the spreading unrest in Libya that reportedly left some hundred people dead, government on Sunday cautioned the Indians against taking up non-essential travel to that country.
The ministry of external affairs said that all Indians, numbering around 18000 in Libya are safe.
“In view of the prevailing situation in Libya, Indian nationals are advised to avoid non-essential travel to Libya, for the present,” Vishnu Prakash, spokesperson of the MEA said.
“All Indians, numbering around 18,000, are safe in Libya. We are following the situation closely. Presently, disturbances have mainly been reported in north-eastern region of Benghazi, Derna, Baida and Turbuk,” he said.
The embassy of India in Tripoli has set up a round the clock control room which can be contacted for further information or assistance.
