With no one claiming responsibility for the September 27 explosion in the Mehrauli flower market, suspicion fell on Bangladeshi nationals and local criminal gangs.

There were at least three mysterious blasts in south Delhi this year.

In the Mehrauli blast, two motorcycle-borne men, who masked themselves in helmets, had dropped a "loosely-packed crude bomb" hidden in a polythene bag in the market. A child was killed on the spot when the packet, he picked it up to return it to the motorcyclists, exploded.

A hot pursuit is still on to identify and arrest the two motorcyclists and police have formed several teams to catch them, a senior police official said.

A total of three persons were killed and injured 21 others in the blast, which had no "signatures" of Indian Mujahideen believed to be behind the serial blasts on September 13.

The way in which the blast was carried out also prompted police to rule out the role of the terror outfit as interrogation of those arrested in connection with the serial blasts "revealed" that they selected only crowded places and exploded bombs in the evening to have "maximum impact".

"We have questioned several people. We are confident that we will crack the case soon," the official said.
