The function was held in the Central Hall of Parliament House. A booklet on Netaji in Hindi and English was released and distributed among the MPs.

Many current and former MPs attended the event.

Netaji is considered a pivotal figure in India's freedom struggle.

After World War II broke out, Netaji fled from India and travelled to Germany and Japan, seeking an alliance with those powers with the aim of attacking the British in India.

With Japanese assistance, he reorganised Indian prisoners of war and plantation workers from Malaysia, Singapore and other parts of Southeast Asia into the Indian National Army and led them against the British forces. He is believed to have died Aug 18, 1945, in a plane crash over Taiwan.
