The decision was met with protest from council member and BJP leader Karan Singh Tanwar who said that with limited time left for the one year extension to expire, and no report from the financial consultant appointed by NDMC, the municipal council was only trying to pass time before seeking another similar extension for lease.

On October 10 last year, when the 33 year lease of the hotel had expired, and NDMC had, on that very day, renewed the hotel's lease for a period of one year in the absence of any contingency plan.
