Maharashtra CM Prithvi Raj Chavan and MoS for planning, science and technology Ashwani Kumar gave the award to the winner in Mumbai.
Industree Crafts Foundation has tripled incomes of marginal artisans by moving them from being ‘piece rate workers’ to owners and entrepreneurs of grassroots enterprises.
More than 140 applicants entered the seventh competition for the “India Social Entrepreneur of the Year”.
The judges this year included— Hindustan Times chairperson Shobhana Bhartia, chairman of ITC Ltd YC Deveshwar, chairperson of Arghyam Foundation Rohini Nilekani, member of the Planning Commission Sudha Pillai, chairman of Godrej Group Adi Godrej, among others.
