New committee to help special category students' admission in DU

The special committee is constituted to help students during the admission process kicking off on June 25. Two new admission grievance committees have also been installed.

Delhi University this year has floated a “special category admission enabling committee” to help students during the admission process which kicks off on June 25 after the declaration of the first cut-off list.

The admission enabling committee for reserved category will look into admission-related queries and problems of the students belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC) categories and students with disability.

The Equal Opportunity Cell’s officer on special duty has been sent a letter by the dean of student’s welfare (DSW) to be a part of the committee.

In all colleges of Delhi University, 22.5% seats are reserved for the SC/ST category, 27% for OBC and 3% for students with disability, apart from some other supernumerary quotas.

Sources said the other responsibilities of the new committee were yet to be known, but according to an official its primary task would be to assist students during admission. The committee would be set up at the university level.

Apart from this the varsity has also set up two admission grievance committees - one for North Campus located in the Dean Students’ Welfare Office and another for South Campus located in the Joint Dean, Students Welfare office at South Campus.

As per rules, every college is required to constitute admission and grievance committees at the college and department level. The college/ department, grievance committees would consist of at least three teachers nominated by the college.

The members of the grievance committee so nominated should also be available in the college throughout the admission process. The details of the grievance committee members, including their contact numbers should be put on the college website and also on college notice board.
